In July, the air of summer surges in southern cities. On 25th, “Beautiful Fujian”-An Art Tour of Sculpture was opened in Xiamen Art Museum. The exhibition was sponsored by Fujian Sculpture Society, Xiamen Art Museum and Xiamen Artists Association. An assessment committee comprised senior sculptors and scholars was organized to screen the entry works from hundreds of candidates. Finally, it approved a hundred excellent art works by artists in domestic and from broad, including Xinmin Fu, Hanping Hu, Chun Lin, Junhua Cheng, Wenxia Zhang, Jinxian Li, Ronghua Wu, Yuezhong Chang, Hong Zhou, Dong Gong, Zibo Lin, Zhaoyang Zhang, Peng Su and Wenqin Chen. It’s a presentation of diversified perceptive and styles covering the opposite element of traditional and modern, international and national, urban and suburb, abstract and figurative arts.

Based in Fuzhou, “Beautiful Fujian”-the first art tour of sculpture got great support from government at all levels. The exhibition was sponsored by Fujian Sculpture Society and opened in Fuzhou Art Museum on 10th July, prior to the tours of ten days to Xiamen and Ningde scheduled to 20th July. Bringing all ages together, most of the participant artists were local sculptors in Fujian province. They showcased colorful landscapes of “Beautiful Fujian” with their sheer enthusiasm and unique creation features in the refined works, consisting of condensed essence of traditional sculpture techniques, vivid and dedicate easel art known for accurate realism, new prominent arts with more fashion and modern sense, aside from many modern creations with rich contemporary concepts and magnificent atmospheres. It was a chance for the artists and sculptors to congregate their imagination and interpretation of “Beautiful Fujian” through the shocking effects and new patterns of art.

The exhibit also includes great art works from Xinmin Fu, a renowned contemporary artist who serves as the president of Fujian Sculpture Society. The creation reflects a strong sense of social responsibility and mission, incorporating with the Chinese classical philosophy and dialectical relations in the laws of the unity of opposites. They are named upon various series, “Weaving”, “Travelling Through”, “Fission”, “Transformation”, “Inspiration”, “Frozen Scenery”, “Dialogue”, “Chasing” and etc., which bring extreme effects to the eyes and heart of the audience. After rounds of national art exhibitions and international biennial exhibitions, the series have become well-known in the art field of the world. In this event, Xinmin Fu brought “Pursuit of Order 1”,”Dialogue 13” , “TTT” and other crafts to the theme of “Beautiful Fujian”. “Pursuit of Order” brings a dialectical composition, with bent or straight components crossing over, weaving, diverging or congregating in work. It displays the specific and inherent orders which are interdependent and counterbalanced in the consequence of conflict and struggle between natural intelligence and human rationality, and the constant rules in and from the universe and human beings. The series refers to the rethinking and dialogue between people’s increasing perceptual desire and dispassionate rationality from a distance to the realistic world, aiming to pursue the methods to reach harmony between human and nature. While, TTT series is comprised of six little characters designed with concise lines and structures. It is described as a small episode by the creator. Xinmin Fu utilizes simple materials, the steel tube and drum to depict the direct and abstract body languages of the characters, revealing a pure world of spirit out of the complexity of life.

About artistic creation, Xinmin Fu stated that:”Culture expands towards and penetrates into nature, then there comes the collapse or explosion before the birth of a new life. ” Exactly as the artistic tension and new life created by Xinmin Fu, the sculpture exhibition activates the brand image of “Ecological Province”, promotes the development of urban creative industry, presents the great success of Fujian province since China’s reform and opening-up in economic development, social progress, cultural construction, urban environment construction, public art undertaking and further more demonstrates the profound charm of inherent human qualities in Fujian. Through continuous enlightenment, contemplation and creation, more and more contemporary artists in Fujian will dissolve art into their soul to form “a new life”.
Xinmin Fu, also known as his courtesy name of Xinmeng, is a prominent contemporary artist and a member of Chinese Artists Association. He is committed to integrate Chinese traditional philosophy and the dialectical thought in the law of the unity of opposites into the creation. He vividly presents the impressive meaning of relations between human and nature, expresses the concern and rethinking of eternal issues on life, nature and living space for human beings, through the combination of two opposite kinds of materials.
The artist found Xinmeng Modern Art Aallery in Xiamen, which takes an area of 3500 square meters and serves as the largest gallery for personal exhibition in China. So far, it has collected over a hundred pieces of innovative and unique modern sculptures and Chinese ink and wash paintings.
In June 1999, accompanied by provincial and municipal leaders, the previous general secretary Hu Jintao visited the 2nd Session of International Art Exhibition during the official inspection in Xiamen. He raised concerns to Xinmin Fu’s artworks and expressed highly praise and intense encouragement to the artist.
In Sept. 2005, The 2nd Session of International Art Exhibition (an biennial exhibition held in Beijing) was opened in National Art Museum of China. Artists from 69 countries joined the exhibition and 36 pieces of Chinese sculptures were selected to be exhibited. However, there were 5 sculptures of “Frozen Scenery” series by Xinmin Fu among the entries. They were exhibited alone in a showroom since they are huge in size. Xinmin Fu and his creations had drawn attentions of the art circles around the world on that event.
In Feb. 2008, Pass Art Center in Boston U.S. invited Xinmin Fu to hold a solo exhibition of Chinese ink and wash painting. The exhibition delivered the artist’s sentiment and rethinking upon life, human and nature to spectators in Boston. That was the first exhibition of Chinese modern ink and wash painting in the art center. The artworks revealed the perfect blending of elegant conceptions of traditional ink and wash painting and modern ideologies, making a big splash around the public with the reputation of “The Vincent Van Gogh to Chinese Ink and Wash Paintings”. It was a direct “dialogue” between Xinmin Fu’s modern art and the western audience, offering a full display of the extreme power in the communication with western art. Aside from that, the active response in the worldwide towards Xinmin Fu’s modern art also caused concerns and strong interest from the northern Europe.
